Nupchi Xo’ Oy
40 Units
New Construction, Affordable Housing Community
The project consists of 15 single family homes, 25 townhomes, and one community building.
Our first tribal collaboration build, Nupchi Xo’ Oy is a 40-unit affordable rental housing community constructed in partnership with Tule River Indian Housing Authority (TRIHA) and Self-Help Enterprises. All units have a large living footprint that includes a spacious living room that opens to the kitchen, large bedrooms with great sized closets, 2 bathrooms, 3 to 4 bedrooms, laundry room and garage. Of these housing types, thirty four are 3-bedroom residences and six are 4-bedroom residences. The single family homes and townhomes have energy saving features such as vinyl windows, tank-less water heaters, cool roofs and LED lighting. In addition, the project includes a 1,956 – square foot community building fully equipped with a laundry, and a computer lab which will be available to adults and children for schoolwork and educational activities.
The complex name pays tribute to Joseph Darrel Vera, who worked to bring affordable housing to members of the Tule River Tribe. Vera died just before the complex, in a city in the San Joaquin Valley near the reservation, came to fruition. His Indian nickname is Nupchi, meaning "cousin." The complex is being called "Village of the Cousins."
